National Diploma
Goals:
The National Diploma programme in Business Administration and Management is aimed at producing diplomats with sound theoretical and practical knowledge to carry out a number of activities in a business concern effectively. The objectives is for the ND diplomate to be able to:

    1. Conduct a simple structured survey on any aspect of business and make appropriate recommendations to the authority.
    2. Identify management problems at appropriate levels, analyze them and design management strategies to overcome them.
    3. Carry our inspection and auditing of books and records.
    4. Carry out evaluation of investment assets for investment purposes and assist in the analysis of investment proposals.
    5. Interpret basic statistical data.
    6. Assist in the preparation of short and long term budget plans.
    7. Write business reports and carry out various types of business communication effectively.
    8. Explain basic concepts and principles in economics and their applications in mixed economy.
    9. Apply principles of accounts to different types of accounting transactions.
    10. Use statistical inferences as aids to business plan and control.
    11. Understand the basic principles of law and apply same to business relationship and transactions.
    12. Explain various legal principles and procedures governing the regulations of companies as contained in company decree of 1968.
    13. Apply mathematics and other quantitative techniques in management decision process.
    14. Conduct product-planning surveys for manufacturing organizations.
    15. Organize sales and distribution of materials.
    16. Carry out market research and similar functions.
    17. Carry out effective purchasing tasks and sales advertising.
    18. Undertake proper storage and preservation of materials and goods.
    19. Keep simple records of financial and other transaction in any organization.
    20. Speak and write clear, correct and effective functional English.
    21. Buy efficiently and wisely obtaining the best possible value for every Naira spent.
    22. Ensure continuity of supply both to the markets or production units.


Higher National Diploma
Goals:
The programme is designed to produce business and management personnel for public and private enterprises who should understand the nature and purpose of business and should be able to contribute effectively to achievement of the underlying objectives by utilizing human and material resources at any time within the organizations, and should be able to:

    1. Conduct structural analysis on any aspect of business and make recommendations to appropriate authority when required.
    2. Identify management problems at appropriate levels, analyze them, and design management strategies to overcome them.
    3. Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and control effectively, business activities at appropriate level and eventually appraise and recommend as appropriate.
The general entry requirements for Business Administration ND & HND programmes are:

a) Admission into National Diploma (ND) programme:

1) Candidates must have at least five credits in the WASC, GCE 'O' Level or Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) or NECO at not more than two sittings.

Compulsorily, each candidate must have credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and/or Commerce, and any Two (2) or one (1) from the following: Business Methods/Business Studies., Accounts/Book Keeping. Geography, Government/History Agricultural Science/ Biology, Literature in English, Yoruba, CRK/IRK, Office Practice, Chemistry, Physics.

2) Applications are also invited from suitably qualified candidates who have five O’ Level credits pass in relevant subjects but did not sit for UTME. They are however required to register on the JAMB platform and continue with their application. All applications and submissions should be made on or before the closing date.

b) Admission into Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes:

Please note that all Higher National Diploma (HND) applicants must possess all the listed O' Level requirements under ND, alongside SIWES Completion Letter and National Diploma Result from recognized NBTE accredited Polytechnic plus 1-year Post-ND Industrial Attachment or in exceptional cases candidates with a pass and 2-years Industrial Attachment may be considered.
The programme will be for 4 Semesters that will be done within 2 years (minimum) & maximum of 4 years . Institutions will award the Diploma certificates to candidates who successfully completed the programme after passing prescribed courseworks, examination, projects and the supervised industrial work experience. Such candidates should have completed between 76-116 semester credit units as prescribed in the programme.

Diplomas shall be classified as follows:
  • Distinction – GPA of 3.50 and above
  • Upper Credit – GPA of 3.00 – 3.49
  • Lower Credit – GPA of 2.50 – 2.99
  • Pass – GPA of 2.00 – 2.49
  • Fail – GPA of below 2.00

It should be emphasized that the National Diploma (ND) programme is terminal and candidates graduating from the programme should be able to perform at that level. Each Diploma programme is expected to run for 4 semesters of 17 weeks each. For the first two years, a candidate must take at least six courses per semester (Minimum of 18 credit units while the maximum varies between 28 and 30). While for the remaining two years candidates can take minimum 0 credit unit and maximum of 12 credit units per semester.

The Higher National Diploma (HND) programme is expected to run for 4 semesters of 17 weeks each, For the first two years, a candidate must take at least six courses per semester (Minimum of 18 credit units while the maximum varies between 29 and 30). While for the remaining two years candidates can take minimum 0 credit unit and maximum of 12 credit units per semester.
The curriculum is structured in four semesters of online Lectures Attendance, Assignments, group work via our Learning Management System on Poly Ibadan ODFeL portal or ony other available means of communication. Each semester of institutional based activities shall be for a duration of 17 weeks distributed as follows: 2 week of registration, 13 contact weeks of teaching; i.e. virtual lectures, practical exercises, seminar presentation, tests etc., and 2 weeks to be devoted for examination and 2 weeks for marking.

The curriculum of the diploma programme consists of four main components viz:
  • i) General Studies courses
  • ii) Foundation course
  • iii) Professional course
  • iv) Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

A. The General Education component includes courses in Social Sciences Studies/Mathematics/ English Language /Communication, Citizenship. Entrepreneurship.
B. Foundation Courses include Economics, Quantitative Techniques, Statistics, and Law etc.
C. Professional Courses are specialized core courses which give the student the theory and practical skills he needs to practice in his field of specialization at the technician/technological level.
D. Final year (ND & HND) students in this programme are expected to carry out individual project work (not term paper). This should be produced and bounded by the student. Projects supervisors will be assigned to each students.
